After more than a decade of dedicated leadership, Christine Clark Lafleur, Chief Executive Officer of Port Cares, has announced her retirement. The agency’s Board of Directors has now launched the search for a new executive director to lead the organization into its next chapter.
Clark Lafleur joined Port Cares in 2014 and has since guided the organization through a period of significant growth, innovation and impact. Known for her collaborative leadership style and deep commitment to community service, she has helped shape Port Cares into a provincial leader in integrated social supports, housing services, and employment programs.
Under her guidance, Port Cares has grown into a leading example of integrated service delivery in the Niagara Region, offering a range of programs including social support, housing, and employment services. Her leadership has been credited with positioning the agency as a trusted resource for thousands of vulnerable individuals and families throughout the region.
“Christine has been an incredible force behind the success and evolution of Port Cares,” said Port Cares’ Board Chair Midge Butson. “Her leadership has been rooted in compassion, vision, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. She’s helped bring our mission to life in ways that will continue to resonate across the community for years to come.”
In addition to her work with Port Cares, Clark Lafleur has held provincially appointed roles with the Trillium Gift of Life Network, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and Feed Ontario. Her accomplishments have earned her several honours, including a YMCA Woman of Distinction award and the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce’s 2023 Not-for-Profit Leader of the Year.
Throughout her tenure, Clark Lafleur was known for her strength in governance, strategic partnerships and community-building-attributes that helped steer the agency through periods of significant growth and challenge.
With her departure, the organization has begun the search for a new executive director to carry forward the mission and momentum Clark Lafleur helped establish.
“While we are sad to see Christine go, we are incredibly grateful for her years of service,” said Butson. “She’s leaving Port Cares stronger than ever, and we are confident the next leader will continue to drive our vision forward.”
Clark Lafleur will remain in her role during the transition period to support onboarding and ensure continuity in leadership.
