A stable home provides a foundation on which to build a path out of poverty. That’s why Port Cares offers housing and crisis support to members of our community in-need. Our location at 92 Charlotte St. is open Monday to Friday to help you.

I am in need of urgent crisis support or advocacy

Are you in need of urgent help? We provide a supportive, confidential environment to help you with:

  • Crisis intervention
  • Suicide intervention
  • Addiction and mental health referrals
  • Information on programs and services
  • Advocacy and outreach
  • Replacement of identification
  • Assistance with government forms such as ODSP

I need help with housing

We’re here to help people living on the street, at risk of homelessness, in unsuitable housing or living in a shelter. We can help you prevent eviction and avoid homelessness by connecting you to the resources and services that can support you.

Our Housing Help Coordinators can:

  • Help you find emergency shelter
  • Help you find suitable housing
  • Help identify and support you in achieving life goals
  • Mediate landlord and tenant disputes
  • Fill out application forms for Niagara Regional Housing
  • Help with new and replacement ID
  • Refer you to helpful services
  • Trusteeship

I need support with Housing First

In partnership with Bridges Community Health Centre, we help support tenants in identified Housing First apartment units in the community (when available.)

In order to be eligible, you must…

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be on the Niagara Regional Housing wait list
  • Be willing to accept support services
  • Have the shelter portion of your benefits paid directly to the landlord
  • Have some form of consistent income
  • Agree to purchase tenant insurance

I need help paying my utility bills

Are you having an emergency that’s making it impossible to pay your utility bills? Our Utility Grant Program can help you with hydro, gas and other types of heating bills.

In order to be eligible, you must…

  • Have a current account in your name
  • Show how you will maintain your utility bills if you receive a grant
  • Show you have attempted to pay your bills
  • Have a total household income must below the Low Income Cutoff before taxes
The amount you will receive varies depending on how many people live in your home.
