Embedding Excellence: Port Cares’ 2026-2029 Strategic Plan
At Port Cares, our mission has always been simple but powerful: helping people in our community overcome barriers to build better lives.
As we look ahead to the next three years, we are excited to share our new 2026–2029 Strategic Plan: Embedding Excellence, a roadmap designed to guide our organization through change, growth, and new opportunities.
This plan builds on the strength of what we’ve achieved together. From the opening of Chestnut Place, to expanding vital food, housing, employment, and family services, Port Cares has become a stronger, more visible leader in supporting those most in need. Now, we are ready to carry this momentum forward.
Refreshing Our Foundation
Through input from staff, our Board of Directors, and community leaders, we revisited the core of who we are and where we’re going. Our refreshed mission, vision, and values reflect not only where we’ve been, but where we are headed:
- Mission: Helping people in our community overcome barriers to build better lives
- Vision: A community where everyone has help, hope, and opportunity
- Values: Compassion, accountability, respect, collaboration, and striving for excellence
Our Five Strategic Directions
The plan is anchored in five interconnected directions that will shape every decision and action over the next three years:
- Internal Leadership and Succession – preparing for leadership transitions while strengthening shared capacity across our team.
- Housing Leadership and Integration – advancing our role as a housing leader, with Chestnut Place as a cornerstone.
- Sustainable, High-Impact Service Delivery – ensuring our programs remain responsive, integrated, and focused on long-term impact.
- Revenue Diversification and Strategic Positioning – building a stronger financial foundation through diversified funding and clear communication of our impact.
- A Culture of Belonging and Excellence – sustaining a workplace and service environment where staff and clients feel respected, supported, and valued.
Looking Ahead
The years ahead will be a time of transition, but also of deep opportunity. This plan honours what has been built, responds to the challenges our community faces, and sets the stage for the future of Port Cares.
